A Message from Zach
“In 1994, Chloë was the first child to undergo major heart surgery using the only existing PH drug while in clinical trials. She was eighteen months old. Not long after, that drug became the first FDA-approved medication for pulmonary hypertension. A true warrior in the fight against PH, Chloë went on to live another twelve and a half years and helped change the course of pulmonary hypertension treatments. When Chloë died, our world fell apart. The Broadway community embraced my family and we found new hope, great friendships, and a place to begin healing,” Rand explains. “Today, there are sixteen approved PH medications for adults, allowing better quality of life for patients and this year, the first medication was approved for kids. Chloë started something my family and I are committed to advancing – we raise awareness, funds for research, and are dedicated to finding a cure.”

About Zach
In 2006, after nearly fourteen years of living with pulmonary hypertension (PH), Chloë Rand passed away. Nine months later, Chloë’s brother Zach joined the cast of Broadway’s Les Miserables First Revival. He was nine years old. Zach has continued to work as a professional actor since. Now twenty-one, Zach has joined forces with his siblings: Liv, Ava and Elijah, the PH community and his friends from stage, television and film to bring together breathless on Broadway® : An Unforgettable Evening of Uniting Voices and Raising Awareness for Pulmonary Hypertension. Rand, whose credits include Broadway: Les Miserables (Gavroche); Broadway and First National Tour: Disney’s Mary Poppins (Michael Banks); Television: Do No Harm (Ray Jordan) and Nurse Jackie (Tommy Varelli); conceived the idea for a fundraiser and awareness raising event when he was a member of an executive board for Broadway Kids Care, a foundation dedicated to engaging young Broadway Stars in philanthropy – and he was just ten years old. When TV and radio host and best-selling author Jeffrey Hayzlett heard about the idea of the event he offered to join in on the fun helping breathless on Broadway® come to life.

Testimonial
“The Rand Family’s benefit, Breathless on Broadway® brings warmth to your heart, music to your ears, and most of all, HOPE, to find a cure for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Honoring their sister who died from PAH, the Rand Family has found a creative way to raise awareness, raise funds for research, and showcase their dedication and advocacy for all PAH patients. Broadway really does care, and the Rand Family has found a way to inspire young Broadway talent to join in the cause by entertaining the audience with Broadway tunes, while continuing to raise awareness for PAH. In my advocacy role, it is a rare opportunity to find this passion and inspiration in a family who are motivated by the love of their sister, and inspired by the dread of this disease. Breathless on Broadway® is a gem, and my absolute favorite event! I hope to see the continued success of this event in the years to come.”
